40 inch snow

There is some weather outfit (not the NWS) that posted about a potential of 40 inches of snow in Iowa next week. And that prediction has been making its way around social media.

Stop.

Please stop.

There is no way we are going to have a 40" snow event inside the borders of Iowa. It has never happened, and it is not going to happen next week.

If you are apt to believe it, please take a look at a map. There are no bodies of water within 1000 miles that can supply a 40" snowfall.

Now maybe if the world started spinning the other direction, maybe we could get 40" of lake effect snow from Lake Michigan in Dubuque. But I'm guessing the sun will be coming up in the east next week.

It's fun to talk about, just like winning the Powerball. But It ain't gonna happen.

And trust me, I got an A in Meteorology at Iowa State.
